The importance of InBody Calibration

Having an InBody device you are running with a device that sets the standard for accurate BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis). This accuracy is what makes the InBody the best of its kind as accurate readings in medical or aesthetic circumstances, require the accuracy InBody provides.
Diving into Bio electrical Impedance Analysis, which is the method of reading body composition through measuring the impedance of a low voltage sent through the body of a person or patient. InBody Utilises BIA to provide accurate readings in an easy to read way.
InBody makes use of a load cell inside the device. The Load Cell does just what the name suggests. It measures load on the device to accurately supply the weight of a person which is fundamental to the accurate readings the InBody supplies. Both electrical impedance, which works through electrodes on the device and the load cell needs to be calibrated in order to keep the device as accurate as possible.
It is true that the InBody device does do a startup calibration on the device, that basically sets the device to a zero standard, but does not reset the electrodes and the load cell to a zero standard.
To explain this fact, if you take an electronic measuring device and you switch the device on with no weight on the device, it will register as a zero value. Once you add load to the device, it registers the load you added. If the device is a self calibrating device which calibrates on start up and you start the device with load added to the device it will register at a zero value and disregard the load added on startup. When removing that load, the device will then give you a zero value as you remove a factor from its registered zero value. This is the calibration the device does at start up. It brings the device to a zero value to measure any load added to the device accurately.
This does not change the load cells value as the load cell has a set value already added. With the use of any device which utilises a load cell, the load cell set value will change and then it needs calibrating to bring it back to its original value. This happens slowly where the load cell goes out but still recommended to be calibrated annually.
Now looking at BIA or Bioelectrical Impedance Assessments. Electrical impedance is what a resistance or blockage in an electrical current. The Inbody uses a light voltage given out through the electrodes to measure the resistance of the body to determine body composition. This is the same method used by a DEXA or DXA scan to determine body composition.
The electrode component of the InBody devices is basically the pathway to the accurate readings given from InBody to measure water, fat and muscle mass in the body, as well as other information. This brings us to the importance of testing and calibrating electrical impedance. Without the right voltage given from any device using this method, you will receive inaccurate readings. So, to keep the InBody device working with the correct voltage output, which is determined by the computer or main circuit board of the device, it needs to be tested and then set for the computer in the InBody device to adjust the voltage output accordingly.
With technology so advanced as InBody, with the right tools any device in the range can be kept in optimal and accurate use to make sure your readings is given accurately.
